Namaste my a$$

We went to Bikram Yoga Bellevue tonight, and what an experience. I know I said I'd take pictures, but there wasn't really any opportunity. I must say, it was quite an...erperience. If you're not familiar with Bikram Yoga, here's a two-bit description: it's 90 minutes of Yoga poses in dim lighting, a 120 degree room, and like 50% humidity. Some people have described it as 90 minutes of Hell. Obviously, I'm not sure I'd equate that time with eternal damnation. And, really, once I got in the room, I thought to myself, "This really isn't so bad!" Then we started. And I thought to myself, "Okay, this is tough." We had our first water break (there were three). And once we started again, I thought, "This sucks. I might faint." And I had to sit down quite a bit. Seriously, Bikram Yoga kicked my butt. Totally kicked it. Who knows how next time will go?

I'm not going to say I loved it. But I didn't hate it. And I'm certainly not apathetic toward it. I guess I'm just witholding judgement until I go a couple more times.

On our way out, we chatted with a gal who just completed her 20th session. She said she loves it, but she's still not really used to it. She said it hasn't really gotten easier for her...just different. Not too encouraging to me. What about those of you who have done or do Bikram Yoga? Does it get any easier?

I've only done regular yoga - never bikram - but it's just not my thing. The title of this post alone gave me my laugh for the day! Good luck with the bikram!

The title of this post made me laugh.

I went to Ashtanga yoga ONCE. I was soaked from head to toe and also though I might faint during the class. Got home, took a shower, decided to hit the bed for a few minutes and woke up three hours later. Yikes!

I did enjoy it, but found it super hard at my size. I might try it again after losing 100 pounds or so.

I think you should keep on going. It will really shake up your fitness routine.

Kim, you're so right! I think it will be good to change up my routine some. Shock my body, right?

I've never done it before, but it doesn't sound appealing at all given your description, lol! Sounds like it'll be good for you though, increasing your flexibility at least? And tolerance to heat? LOL

Look at your mileage! Come on, you can do better than that :-P j/k, that's awesome, do you think you will hit 50 by month's end? 100?

Yeah, my mileage is WAY down...and I think I only have 2 weeks left before we donate. Yikes! Gotta pick it up, I guess. Pushing for at least 50...

Okay, I am going to have to say that I think this sounds pretty tortuous. There is no way I am deliberately going to go into a humid, hot room to exercise when there are other options. :-)

I have not given yoga a try. I need to be brave enough. I hate the heat. Maybe when it's 20 below I'll give it a try.
