Finally, A Playlist

I've been doing this weight-loss thing for about a year. And I've never had a playlist. Was I missing something? I know they're not essential, but listening to my Zune on random for the last year has been interesting. While I don't have a ton of songs, I do have about 4,000. And they're so varied. Which is usually good, but when you're trying to burn a ton of Calories on the stairstepper, it's tough to keep up while listening to John Rutter's Requiem, or Mitch Hedberg's Comedy, or An interesting Sermon. So, I had to make a playlist. As you can see, I don't have a lot of anngry music. But most of it is up tempo. I dont' think I'll be changing this up all the time, but I may add to it. And yeah, the playlist has helped me even step up my workouts. Sweet!

Your musical tastes are pretty ecclectic! Rage Against The Machine are brilliant for working out to (so are the Foo Fighters - especially 'One by One').

A couple of my favourites at the moment are 'That's Not My Name' by the Ting Tings and 'Sex on Fire' by Kings of Leon. :o)

Maybe I am missing something, but I have never listened to music while working out. For me, it is a time to not have any distractions. Sometimes I use it as prayer time, but usually I just think. Boy, now that I have typed that I realize how much of a nerd that makes me sound like. :-)

Wow Beej, we have similar eclectic tastes! Everything from Garth Brooks to Abba to the Rent Soundtrack! (Which was AWESOME) I love it. I really enjoy listening to music too. One of my playlists has only songs that have phrases that have to do with running/walking in them (intentionally or not) such as:

Step by Step - NKOTB (don't laugh!)
I walk the line - Live's version
I run to you - Lady Antebellum
For your entertainment - Adam Lambert (the phrase is "pick up the pace")

I do this so that when I'm running, I hear those little phrases and it gives me the mental push to keep going. I also like songs like "Bring me down" by Pillar...

I have other playlists for when I'm not walking/running with just uptempo songs but I kinda like my running one! Thanks for sharing yours. Music is such a passion of mine. I always learn more about people when I learn what kind of music they listen to. I love eclectic music listeners like me! LOL!

@Steve, I seem to remember you saying that. I think I might start going sans music on some walks. It's when I'm pushing myself that I dig the tunes, you know?

@Josie, I love you music tastes, too! You always seem to have soemthing I haven't heard of...I'll have to check a couple out. Maybe not NKOTB, though... :)

I like music when I am at home or in the gym. If I walk outside I listen to the world and whatever is going on in my head.

I don't want to shock anyone...but I don't have an Ipod...I don't even have a cell phone.

My BF is actually considering getting an Ipod which would be helpful to me when we are on vacation as I enjoy guided meditations. Don't suggest bringing my CD player as I don't have one of those either. I am laughing at myself now. Minimalism rocks!!!

The real reason I don't have an Ipod is I can't wear ear buds without aggravating my ears. They don't like anything in them and will retaliate with infections. I figure for the meditations I can turn the Ipod up really loud and just place the buds near my ears.

This is a great post, and perfect timing since I will be starting training for C25k. I love to workout to Michael Franti and Spreahead. Looking forward to checking out some of your suggestions.

Love the playlist! I wanna post mine but I'm kinda embarrassed...my tastes are very varied as well. Lots of old MJ stuff.
I find when I put my Ipod on shuffle, I get some real crappy songs. Stuff that I'm like "when I get home, I'm deleting this!"

@Kim, wow, that is a minimal life. Sometimes that really sounds nice. We might have an extra mp3 player laying around...I'll let you know if I find it--talk about NOT minimalist, huh?
