Counting Calories Works

I've now only been counting my Calories for a week and a half now, but it's looking like a great plan.  You see, I've been consistant losing weight throughout this journey so far, but it's been a struggle and kind of a test of my faith every week.  I weigh in on Saturday morning (usually my lowest weight), but by the time Monday comes along, I've "gained" 3-5 pounds over the couple of days!  Yikes!  Now, I know some of this comes from water (yeah, sure), but I'm sure that most of it comes from not really controlling my eating and not exercising as much as I should during the weekend.  But now, with counting Calories, I found that when I weighted myself that I'm on track for a pretty great loss (I know it's in 4 days, but still)!  I'm excited, and looking forward to controlling my intake (Monday through Sunday) as much as I do with my exercise!  On top of that, I've really been able to think about what I'm eating.  Yes, I could eat 3 small sliders on whole wheat buns, or I can have a HUGE salad for the same Calories--and I can decided which one I really want (and they can be different on diffrent days).  Yes, I do still chose some "bad" things for me, but not nearly as often as I had before, and it's always with intention now, too.  What a fun development.  I'm sad that I waited so long to do this.  Of course, it wouldn't work for everybody, but I'm glad I'm doing it.  And would recommend it for anyone who's even thinking about it.

Two more quick items:  I just got done watching the latest episode of Good Eats, and it was all about how Alton Brown lost 50 pounds over 9 months!  It was super interesting, and I'd recommend that people check it out.  I love that show, and it's so great how much he's done with his fitness.  Also, go one over and congratulate Rick over at DadShrinks on his awesome loss this last week.  He's been putting in the work for weeks and not seeing any results--until this week!  Sweet work, Rick!

Up Through Monday:
1- 20 minute session on the Treadmill (2.00 miles)
1- 10 minute session on the Stairmaster (324 Calories)
1- 15 minute session on the Elliptical
1 set of 2- 60 second planks
1 set of 30 second side planks (on each side)
60 sit ups
Walk 3 miles

I am glad you are appreciating counting calories Beej. I have never been tempted to do that, but it works for a lot of people. I still think you are doing great though.

Sometimes the simplest things work the best! Unless you've completely messed up your metabolism, then eating fewer calories (without dropping to starvation mode!) than you burn IS going to result in weight loss!

There are so many fad (and some really good!) diets out there, but glad you're being sensible.

I found your blog via Kimberley's (K The Phoenix) and just wanted to say how impressed I am with your loss to date. Good luck in reaching your goal(s)!

I'm LOL'ing at Kimberley's comment above!!! HAHA, Tw'eats! I love that.

I'm glad you found a system that is working for you beej. I started counting calories, but it quickly became too big of a chore for me and I stopped. I still log my food, just not necessarily the calorie intake. I always look at labels and such so that I'm aware of my caloric intake (give or take) but not necessarily know a specific total for the day. You're doing fantastic though...how many miles have you done for the week so far?
