Philippians 4:10-13

I rejoice in the Lord greatly that now at last you have revived your concern for me; indeed, you were concerned for me, but had no opportunity to show it.  Not that I am referring to being in need; for I have learned to be content with whatever I have.  I know what it is to have little, and I know what it is to have plenty. In any and all circumstances I have learned the secret of being well-fed and of going hungry, of having plenty and of being in need.   I can do all things through him who strengthens me.  - Philippians 4:10-13 NRSV

Why am I putting this on my blog?  Well, today was a tough one.  Not too bad.  But tough.  And it reminded me of the verse above: "for I have learned to be content with whatever I have."  It all started out well: I got in to work early, got a lot of follow-ups done, and was well into my day when I had lunch with one of my friends.  Then it all kinda went south: I stopped by the grocery store after lunch and got a speeding ticket (my first one in years).  Then I got into work and found out that I'm being assigned to a different department; to the first position I had at my company three years ago.  It's not a demotion per se, but it's definitely not an advancement for me.  I'm okay with it, though, but it probably won't look too good on the ol' resume--which I am NOT dusting off, by the way.  I know that this won't interfere with my career path at my company, but it'll just be more circuitous!  So, although people usually say that bad things usually come in threes, there was nothing else.  (Well, I did almost rear-end a big truck, and didn't get too much exercise in).  Yeah, not much exercise in at all.  I was planning on exercising when I got back from lunch, but that didn't really work out, you know?

On the plus side, my new role won't be nearly as busy as the one I'm leaving.

And it looks like I'll have a lot of catching up to do this week!

beej, I love your red blog! That rocks!

Sorry ya had such a bad day. I sincerely hope today's been better for you. You've come so far and have proven how committed you are, so I have no doubt that you will get through this rough patch stronger than before.

Hey, I hear Ishmael has a really cool cape that might help you out!

I think things happen the way they are supposed to, so there is a reason you are being moved back to your old position.

Personally I think it so you can get to the gym earlier and use "your" equipment when you want to.

Congratulations on your move!

Ahhh...work issues. I know them well. Work is such a blessing and a real source of frustration at the same time, isn't it? And it can become such a large part of our identities, too. That makes it hard to separate the personal and the professional. A lot of times things get done at work for reasons that have nothing to do with how well we perform, how hard we work, how much we give to our jobs. It's all about what's best for the company at that moment. It's a rum world, as my Nana used to say. But hang in there Beej -- you've got a lot more going on in your life than your job, and that is a very good thing.

Beej, I like your verse to support a good attitude about it. Another one I like to say when things don't seem to go as I had planned them - "all things work together for those who love the Lord". Not some, but ALL.

Now to go find out why your post is in red.
